Danish Proposals to U.N. Maritime Agency Seek Tougher Emissions Standards for Ships

Denmark has issued a pair of proposals to the International Maritime Organization (IMO)—the U.N. agency responsible for improving maritime safety and preventing pollution from ships-to introduce a new "green levy" for shipping fuel and to set new emissions standards for shipbuilding. The proposals, which were submitted by the Danish Maritime Authority, will be considered at the forthcoming meeting of the IMO's Marine Environment Protection Committee (MEPC, Session No. 57), which will take place in London March 31-April 4.
