Brazil Requires Landowners to Register Amazon Property, Expands Protected Areas

President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva Dec. 21 signed five decrees to curb deforestation, an Environment Ministry spokeswoman told BNA Dec. 26. One of the decrees requires Amazon landowners in heavily deforested municipalities to register their property, while the other measures expand protected forest-land, the ministry spokeswoman said.
