摘要

The United Nations' Inter-Organization Program for the Sound Management of Chemicals, the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), and the U.N. Institute for Training and Research have launched a series of workshops designed to help developing countries become more familiar with various applications of nanotechnologies and manufactured nanomate-rials.rnThe three organizations are following through on recommendations made by the Second International Conference on Chemicals Management during its May meeting in Geneva. The recommendation was made as part of the Strategic Approach to International Chemicals Management, or SAICM (32 INER 470, 5/27/09).rnSpecifically, the conference encouraged "governments and other stakeholders to assist developing countries and countries with economies in transition to enhance their capacity to use and manage nanotechnologies and manufactured nanomaterials responsibly, to maximize potential benefits, and to minimize potential risks."
