Brazilian Nuclear Plant Builder, Regulator Reveal Plan for Storage of Radioactive Waste

Rio de janeiro-Brazil's nuclear plant builder/ operator Eletronuclear and the regulatory National Nuclear Energy Commission (CNEN) have developed a plan for the long-term disposal of radioactive waste, an Eletronuclear spokesman told BNA April 1.rnIBAMA, the licensing arm of Brazil's Environment Ministry, required the plan details within 180 days of its March 3 granting of a construction license for the 7.2 billion real ($3.3 billion), 1,400-megawatt Angra 3 nuclear plant, Brazil's third such reactor (32 INER 231, 3/18/09).
