摘要

International negotiators who are to conclude an international climate change agreement by the end of 2009 need to give more attention to how increasing global temperatures and rising sea levels could pose national security threats, particularly in the developing world, a former U.K. official said Feb. 19. Nick Mabey, chief executive for the E3G nonprofit group and a former senior adviser for strategy for the United Kingdom, said rising temperatures could trigger increasing drought and threaten vast areas of cropland in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa in coming decades, forcing migrations of refugees that could destabilize the entire region.
