Argentina to Build Power Plant Fueled By Cooking Oil From Homes, Restaurants

Argentina will build a $20 million, 8.4 megawatt electricity generation plant powered by used cooking oil, the federal government said Nov. 8.rnThe biofuel plant is designed to help reduce greenhouse gas emissions and soil and water contamination. Construction of the power plant in Bella Vista, on the outskirts of Buenos Aires City, will begin immediately and is expected to conclude in the second half of 2011. The project is sponsored by alternative energy and sustainable development programs run by the federal government and by Buenos Aires Province, which is a separate jurisdiction from the namesake city.
