摘要

Organic chemical factories in India face tougher standards for emissions and effluents under regulations issued by the Ministry of Environment and Forests.rnOrganic chemicals are used in the manufacture of a varied range of products. The new requirements lower maximum permissible levels for a range of pollutants-including nitrates, arsenic, cyanide, chromium, lead, copper, mercury, and zinc, among others-that may be emitted during their production.rnThe standards are designed to bring India's organic chemicals manufacturing industry in line with stricter norms required by the European Union's registration, evaluation, and authorization of chemicals (REACH) regulation for exporting countries some of which will begin to apply at the end of 2010. A large number of companies manufacturing organic chemicals, from large-scale petrochemical refineries to small and medium enterprises, will be affected.
