Proposal Would Make Indian Manufacturers, Dealers Responsible for Disposal of E-Waste

India's Ministry of Environment and Forests has proposed new rules for the management of electronic waste that would apply more stringent controls on imports, would expand regulations to cover the nation's informal recycling industry, and would assign responsibility to manufacturers for the collection and disposal of used electronics and equipment.rnThe proposed E-waste (Management and Handling) Rules 2010 seek to regulate not only manufacturers, but also recyclers and intermediaries such as bulk buyers. End users and consumers also would be covered, becoming responsible for turning in end-of-life products for recycling.
