Egypt Hopes to Expand Renewable Power With Focus on Solar, Wind, Biogas Sources

The Egyptian government believes that by 2020 more than 20 percent of its energy can come from alternative sources. The three areas of interest for alternative energy are in solar power, wind, and biogas, the environment ministry told BNA Feb. 3. With these sources, "we believe we can curtail the country's use of oil and gas and create energy that will combat shortages we envision arising."rnOssama Reda, Environment Minister Maged George's spokesman, told BNA that through these three resources, "Egypt can create enough power for at least 20 percent of its current needs."
