Clear Regulatory Policy, Financial Support Needed to Develop Clean Coal Tech in India

Development of clean coal technology in India requires government policy and regulatory support, experts said at the Clean Coal India 2011 conference here. Innovative financing and technical assistance are needed to develop indigenous technologies suitable for Indian conditions, particularly the high ash content, or incombustible residue, found in locally mined coal, industry members said Nov. 8 at the conference organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Tax breaks, feed-in tariffs for clean coal technologies, and other incentives also would enhance the sector's ability to absorb risks, they said.
