India to Launch $77 Million Program to Help Agriculture Adapt to Climate Change Effects

The Indian government plans to launch a study of the impact of climate change on agriculture and allied sectors to help in development of cost-effective adaptation and mitigation strategies. The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the National Initiative on Climate Resilient Agriculture. The program will cost Rs 350 crore ($77.4 million) and will be implemented during the current Five-Year Plan, which lasts until March 2012, the government said in a Dec. 15 news release.
