Brazil Allows Some Use of U.N. System For Classifying Hazardous Chemicals

The Brazilian Association of Technical Standards (ABNT) has issued revised instructions to more closely align the country's classification system for hazardous chemicals with an international standard. The Aug. 3 revision (ABNT NBR 14725-4:2012) said that, when drafting required material safety data sheets (MSDSs) describing substances' physical properties and dangers, producers of hazardous chemicals must continue to use a 2009 ABNT measure (ABNT NBR 14725-2:2009) to classify them when possible.
