Energy independence and national security are helping to drive China's development of strategic industries for environmental protection, clean energy, energy efficiency, and new-energy vehicles, officials said March 29 at the Macau International Environmental Cooperation Forum. "Encouraging green development of traditional industry is most imperative" and "nurturing key strategic industries" is needed because of environmental degradation, resource limitations, and economic sustainabil-ity challenges that China faces over the coming decades, said Wang Gang, head of the Ministry of Science and Technology.
