Experts Recommend Shipping Controls For Products Containing Paraquat Dichloride

Scientific experts from more than 30 countries recommended that a range of products containing the chemical paraquat dichloride be subject to new restrictions on international trade. Three groups of industrial chemicals and one hazardous pesticide formulation containing paraquat dichloride should be added to Annex III of restricted chemicals under the Rotterdam Convention on Prior Informed Consent (PIC) Procedures for Certain Hazardous Chemicals and Pesticides, the convention's Chemical Review Committee (CRC) agreed during a meeting held in Geneva, March 19-23.
