Construction Companies in Brazil Required To Separate Reusable Waste for Recycling

Civil construction companies in Brazil must separate all reusable construction waste and sustainably dispose of it at recycling plants or at storage sites built by municipalities, under a resolution approved by the National Environmental Council (CONAMA). The resolution (No. 448), which went into effect upon its publication Jan. 18, requires the separation, recycling, and sustainable disposal of everything from leftover plastic, paper, cardboard; metal, glass, and wood to concrete, sand, plaster, and cinder blocks, as does a 2002 CONAMA resolution (No. 307) that it amends, CONAMA technical specialist Adriano Ribeiro told Bloomberg BNA Feb. 2.
