Measure Allows Brazil Environmental Agency To Resume Collecting Compensation Fees

An independent agency within Brazil's Environment Ministry that manages federally protected areas said it will resume collecting environmental compensation fees, a practice suspended in July 2013. The ICMBio said that developers whose projects will have an environmental impact in federally protected areas must now pay a compensation fee of 0.5 percent of their initial investment cost, minus what the developer spends to mitigate environmental impact and ensure against environmental accidents (32 INER 446, 5/27/09).
