Faced With Threat of Transport Strike, France Suspends Eco-Tax on Heavy Trucks

The French government has indefinitely suspended the most recent version of the country's ill-starred "eco-tax" on big trucks, citing complaints by national truck lobbies that the measure would hurt their sector's ability to compete. Following an Oct. 9 meeting with truckers, Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy Segolene Royal and Secretary of State for Transport Alain Vidalies announced that they had decided "to suspend sine die" the measure.
