摘要

Estimated greenhouse gas emissions from the burning of fossil fuels in the European Union were down 2.5 percent in 2013 compared to the previous year, according to preliminary figures published May 7 by the European Commission's statistical body, Euro-stat. In a summary by country, Eurostat said that emissions from fossil-fuel combustion dropped in 22 of the EU's 28 countries. However, countries with rising emissions included France, Germany and Poland, three of the EU's largest countries. The other three countries with rising emissions were Denmark, Estonia and Portugal. Total estimated CO2 emissions from fossil-fuel combustion in 2013 amounted to 3,352 million metric tons, compared to 3,439 million metric tons in 2012, Eurostat said.
