摘要

Mexican climate change negotiators urged the world's richest countries May 8 to emulate the steps it has taken to commit to addressing emissions reduction. Mexico has passed some of the world's most ambitious climate change legislation, agreeing to cut its emissions levels to half of 2000 rates by 2050. It's a commitment that Mexican officials hope other countries will step forward to take, Juan Jose Guerra Abud, secretary of Mexico's Ministry of the Environment and Natural Resources, told international representatives at the Major Economies Forum on Energy and Climate in Mexico City. "Even though Mexico is a country that emits 1.4 percent of the world's emissions, we want to take on our responsibility," Guerra Abud said at the summit. "We have established a specific strategy and set out a deadline, both in 20 years and 40 years, in terms of the work that Mexico has to do."
