IEA Says Flexible Natural Gas Plants Important in Switch to Renewable Power

The abundant natural gas supply in the U.S. should be an important component of a plan to transform U.S. power generation to include a far bigger share of variable renewable energy, the head of the International Energy Agency said. IEA Executive Director Maria van der Hoeven told reporters Feb. 26 that flexible natural gas plants should be a big U.S. advantage in making its power system quickly adaptable to wind and sun power's inherent variability, as the country works to transform its power system to integrate more variable renewables.
