Australia Climate Change Authority Urges Much Deeper Emissions Cuts by 2020

Australia's advisory body on emissions reduction goals is urging the government to more than triple its 2020 target for carbon emission cuts. In a nonbinding report, the Climate Change Authority said Feb. 27 the country should aim for a 15 percent cut below 2000 levels by 2020, and should augment this by a further 4 percent using surplus emission allowances it holds because it over-achieved on undertakings to cut emissions between 2008 and 2012.
