Sinopec Obtains China's First License For Production of Airline-Grade Biofuel

Beijing-based China Petroleum & Chemical Corp., also known as Sinopec Limited, has secured the first license granted in China for producing airline-grade biofuel by the Civil Aviation Administration of China, signaling a possibly greater use of such fuels as they are commercialized and produced on a larger scale, a Feb. 16 notice from the State Council indicated. The statement, attributed to the state-owned assets regulatory commission, said Sinopec first started research on the fuel in 2009 and conducted a successful test flight in April 2013 with cooperation from NYSE-listed China Eastern Airlines Corp. Ltd., the Airbus Group and the China National Aviation Fuel Group. China is the fourth country beside France, Finland and the U.S. to have conducted airworthiness assessments of biofuels, the statement said.
