Canadian politicians, oil producers, energy analysts and environmental groups are divided in their reaction to the U.S. State Department decision to advance TransCanada Corp.'s proposed Keystone XL pipeline to a national interest determination. Premier Alison Redford of Alberta province, who has lobbied extensively in favor of the pipeline in Washington, was pleased with the State Department's review released Jan. 31, saying it recognizes Alberta's work on responsible energy development and management in the landlocked oil sands (see related story).
