摘要

China plans to add more than 4.8 million single-vehicle charging points in the next five years to accommodate 5 million electric cars in an effort to curb automobile emissions. In addition, the nation is targeting an increase of more than 12,000 charging stations by 2020, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said in guidelines posted Nov. 17 on its website. The stations can handle more than one car simultaneously, while a charging point serves only one vehicle at a time. The goals represent a significant step for China, which at the end of 2014 had only 780 battery-charging and changing stations and 31,000 charging points to serve more than 120,000 electric cars, according to NDRC data. The world's largest country by population has made development of electric cars a strategic initiative to help combat pollution and reduce dependence on imported oil.
