摘要

Power sector carbon dioxide emissions would decouple from soaring global electricity demand by 2030 if pledges that countries have made for this year's Paris climate summit are actually implemented, the International Energy Agency said Oct. 21. The Paris-based agency said more than 150 countries representing 90 percent of global economic activity and nearly 90 percent of global energy-related carbon dioxide emissions have submitted pledges to the United Nations. Those pledges, which the UN calls Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs), are expected to form the basis for a global pact to fight climate change to be negotiated in December in Paris.
