At Bonn Climate Talks, Developing Countries Call for 'Clear' Finance Goals in Paris Pact

Poor and developing countries at United Nations talks in Bonn Oct. 22 demanded that the upcoming Paris climate change deal include clear financial targets for how much the developed world will commit to spending after 2020, something industrialized nations have strongly resisted. The demands, formally made by South Africa's Joyce Mxakato-Diseko, came on the penultimate day of the Oct. 19-23 Bonn talks, which are seen as the last real chance for substantial progress on some of the most vexing international issues before the Paris summit starts Nov. 30. Speaking on behalf of the Group of 77, which includes 134 poor and developing countries, Mxakato-Diseko told reporters the issue of finance was "a matter of life and death."
