European Chemicals Agency Seeks Input On Classifications of Two Chemicals

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) Oct. 7 said comments could be submitted through Nov. 23 on proposals to modify the harmonized European Union classifications and labeling of two chemicals used in industrial and domestic applications. The first chemical, pyrocatechol, is used in the production of perfumes and cosmetics and in various applications as an anti-corrosion agent, an antioxidant, a bonding agent and a tanning agent, according to ECHA. The second chemical, sodium hypochlorite, is used in household bleach and in processes such as wastewater treatment and also is approved as a pesticide in the European Union, ECHA said.
