Specialized Electronics Producers Could Face New Air, Water Pollution Standards in China

Producers of special electronic materials and devices, printed circuit boards, semiconductor equipment, digital signage and projector equipment, and products using electron and photoelectron technology would have to meet new airborne emissions and wastewater discharge standards in China under a draft plan released Oct. 12. The draft standard released by the Ministry of Environmental Protection for public comment is part of a process of upgrading air and water pollution standards for all electronics manufacturers, whose primary production areas in eastern coastal provinces are partially shifting toward other less-developed parts the country, according to the ministry. New wastewater discharge limits for special electronics producers would address chemical oxygen demand levels, nitrogen, cyanide, petroleum, phosphorus and cadmium.
