The European Commission is calling for input through Oct. 16 on the renewal or amendment of a number of exemptions from the European Union's Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive (RoHS Directive, 2011/65/EU), which prohibits six hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment sold in the bloc. The RoHS Directive bans lead, mercury, hexavalent chromium, and polybrominated biphenyls and polybro-minated diphenyl ethers above a threshold of 0.1 percent by weight in electrical and electronic goods in the EU. The law also bans cadmium above a threshold of 0.01 percent.
