Japan Plans to Tighten Rules on Solar Power To Boost Other Renewables, Help Consumers

Japan's Trade Ministry is moving to cut government incentives for solar power-generating businesses and homes that sell that electricity to power utilities, a move intended in part to even the playing field with other renewable energy sources, a ministry official told Bloomberg BNA June 8. The measures, which if adopted would take effect in 2017, also are aimed at helping Japanese consumers, who are seeing higher electricity bills to offset the cost of several government incentives for solar production.
