IPCC Opens Nairobi Talks With Warning Of Climate Change Impact on East Africa

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change reiterated a warning Feb. 23 that East Africa could suffer more severe food and water security issues because of climate change. The warning comes on the eve of the latest round of talks in Nairobi. The talks, which will focus on local impacts from climate change and preparations for the United Nation's year-end global climate summit in Paris, will be the first formal IPCC gathering since the organization released the Synthesis Report for its Fifth Assessment Report nearly four months ago, predicting "severe, widespread and irreversible impacts" worldwide unless emissions are cut dramatically (37 INER 1533, 11/5/14).
