Poland Poised to Become First Sovereign To Sell Green Bonds as Sales Double in 2016

Poland is poised to become the first sovereign to sell green bonds after hiring a trio of banks for an issue of at least 500 million euros ($537 million) of the securities in the first quarter of 2017. The country will use proceeds from its sale to fund projects with environmental benefits, as it seeks to implement European Union-backed targets for increasing renewable energy use, the finance ministry said in a Dec. 5 statement. Eligible projects include renewable energy generation, improving and modernizing its rail network and more energy-efficient farming methods.
