Canadian Approach for Eliminating HFCs Differs From U.S., Focuses on Bulk Uses

Canada is taking a different path than the U.S. for eliminating hydrofluorocarbons, a potent greenhouse gas, by planning to phase out bulk uses. In addition, the government said it will regulate the use of HFCs in specific products such as refrigeration and air conditioning equipment, foams and aerosols. The U.S., meanwhile, has adopted product-specific controls but has not yet proposed a phase-down of bulk uses. Canada's proposed regulation of individual products also differs from the U.S. approach.
