European Union Chemicals Agency Publishes Non-Animal Test Guidance

The European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published guidance for REACH registrants July 5 on a number of non-animal test guidelines from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) that relate to generating data on the effects of substances on the eyes and skin. The guidance is intended to help companies provide information required under the European Union's REACH law (Regulation No. 1907/2006 on the registration, evaluation and authorization of chemicals), following an amendment to the REACH annexes in June under which non-animal methods should be used by default to determine whether substances irritate or damage the skin or eyes.
