A German chemical company is turning carbon dioxide into foam used inside mattresses with a breakthrough catalytic process that could change the way plastics are made. Covestro AG turns carbon dioxide into a polymer using a patented process developed through its Dream Production project, according to the Leverkusen-based company. On June 17, the former Bayer Material Science unit, now listed on the MDAX, is inaugurating a plant to process as many as 5,000 tons of new polyol made with 20 percent carbon dioxide, said Chief Executive Officer Patrick Thomas.
