South Korea Announces Progress on K-REACH Joint Registration of Chemicals

South Korea has established a regulatory platform for joint registrations of existing chemicals to facilitate compliance with the mandates of the Law on the Registration and Evaluation of Chemicals (K-REACH), Ministry of Environment officials said. Joint registration is the operational centerpiece of the K-REACH program, modeled after the European Union's REACH regulation. K-REACH chemicals can involve any number of importers and manufacturers handling the same substance, and the cost of testing and data acquisition should require participation in joint consortia, according to ministry officials. South Korea designated 510 existing substances in July 2015 as the first batch of K-REACH chemicals subject to registration through June 2018 (38 INER 892, 7/15/15).
