摘要

Two aboriginal groups in Western Canada have filed a $3 billion suit against the government claiming a federal agency mishandled its management of energy resources on their reserves. Onion Lake and Poundmaker Cree bands in Alberta and Saskatchewan Feb. 8 charged in the Federal Court of Canada (File T-237-16) that the regulatory agency Indian Oil and Gas Canada failed to promote and develop energy resources on their territories, breaching the government's fiduciary duty. The agency manages oil and gas exploration in aboriginal lands under the Indian Oil and Gas Act.
