A PROCESS FOR MAKING ASUBSTITUTE FOR CANADA BALSAM ESPECIALLY SUITED FOR MAKING SLIDES OF PETROLOGICAL SPECIMENS FOR MICROSCOPIC EXAMINATION. FROM THE CRUDE NATURAL RESIN 'CHANDRUS' (SHOREA WEISNERI SCHIFFN).
We Claim 1. A process for producing a substitute for the imported Canada Balsam, especially suitable for making slides of petrological specimens for microscopic examination, which comprises of the extraction of the crude natural resin chandrus (Shorea weisneri Schiffn fam. Dipierocarpaceae), wherein the crude resin is extracted by a mixture of the solvents o-Hexane and Solvent ether (di-ethyl ether) in the ratio 100:1 which extracts out only that part of the crude resin which is soluble in xylol and gives a refractive index near-about 1.52-1.53.
