China Authorities Release Annual Catalog On High-Polluting Products to Avoid

China has updated its catalog of highly polluting technologies, products and production techniques that are discouraged for use by government entities or state-owned enterprises. The list this year included a separate section on accepted environmental protection technology, according to a Ministry of Environmental Protection announcement. The list of 837 "highly polluting, high-environmental risk" products primarily focuses on those associated with key controlled 'pollutants such as sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxide or ammonia nitrogen, or that contribute to increased levels of chemical oxygen demand in wastewater. The list also discourages purchases of products that can lead to high levels of volatile organic compound or heavy metal emissions.
