RUSSIAN COURT RULING ON THE STRATEGIC INDUSTRIES LAW

A Russian court has recently made a ruling that may have significant repercussions for foreign investors engaged in preliminary stages of investment in relevant industries in Russia. The Strategic Industries Law (SIL) regulates the process of foreign investments in strategic sectors of the Russian economy. It imposes certain restrictions on foreign investments in Russian strategic companies. "Strategic company" is defined to mean a company incorporated in Russia and undertaking at least one of the 42 strategic types of activity as set out by the SIL.
