The Uncertain Future for Biodiesel: A Case for Biofuel Subsidisation Reform

If America is to be free from our dependence on oil, Congress must support the alternative fuel industry in its growth and development. Emerging technologies cannot survive without long term financial planning, which has become impossible with the year-to-year changes in the incentive programs. Without a minimum blend standard, the general population will be unlikely to have exposure to biodiesel, thereby making it difficult to create a consumer demand for the product, and establish a self sustaining industry. For America to retain a position of power in the world energy market, Congress must act with conviction in granting long term support for biodiesel as a fuel that will be one of the energy sources of the future for America.
