Appropriately enough, the January issue of IELR contains a number of pieces which touch on themes that are likely to loom large in 2012. They include Russian-EU energy security issues, increasing energy export capacity in Canada and the status of the new energy regime in Iraq (about which this publication has written extensively in the past). Another article, by Shannon Urquhart—Senior Associate, PSL, Energy Projects, McGrigors LLP—concerns electricity reform in Britain, and it is perhaps worth discussing some of its main points in more detail. The UK Government is about to embark on what has been billed as the biggest transformation of the country's electricity market since it was privatised in the 1980s.
