AN OVERVIEW OF THE LEGAL REGIME GOVERNING RENEWABLE ENERGY IN TURKEY

The main pieces of legislation governing the renewable energy sources are: 1.the Law on Utilization of Renewable Energy Resources for the Purpose of Generating Electrical Energy dated May 10, 2005, No.5346 (Renewable Energy Law); 2.Regulation on Documentation and Support of Renewable Energy Sources dated March 14,2013, No.28782 (Renewable Support Regulation); 3.Regulation on Electricity Generation without License dated July 21, 2011, No.28001 (the Regulation on Electricity Generation without License); and 4.Regulation on Determination, Rating, Protection and Usage of Lands for Renewable Energy Sources for Purposes of Generation of Electricity dated October 27, 2013, No.28834. Furthermore the Electricity Market Law, dated March 14, 2013, No.6446 (EML) and Electricity Market License Regulation dated November 2, 2013, No.28809 (Regulation) include a number of provisions which are applicable to renewable energy sources.
