X-Rite has unveiled the next generation of the Color Exchange Format (CxF), a file format designed to accurately and unambiguously communicate all commercially relevant aspects of colour across devices, applications and geographies. The new CxF is said to be applicable to any industry where faithful communication of colour and total-appearance data is mission-critical. "Methods for specifying and communicating colour are often media-specific and the interpretation of colour data across media can be ambiguous," said X-Rite's vice-president of new solutions, Dr Niraj Agarwal. "This makes colour consistency difficult to achieve in cross-media colour reproduction. "CxF provides an XML-based colour-specification mechanism that is comprehensive, flexible and usable as an industry-agnostic horizontal resource."
