Nations Agree Europe- wide Patents System

Inventors and companies will soon find it easier and less expensive to protect their innovations in the EU, following an agreement by the Member States on the main elements of an EU patent and a single European Patent Court. On December 4, the EU Competitiveness Council -under the leadership of the Swedish Minister for Trade Ewa Bjorling - reached a unanimous agreement on the general focus of the European patent regulation and Council conclusions on a common European Patent Court. This is seen as a political breakthrough in these longstanding negotiations.
