The New Century of Metropolis: Urban Enclaves and Orientalism

This work sets out to explain the many causes and manifestations of urban enclaves and the role of oriental urbanism in creating them. It succeeds. Using the paradigm of orientalism, Angotti begins by highlighting the way in which entrenched ideals of 'the urban' have become embedded in urban planning and urban governance. He presents a valuable historical perspective on how deeply entrenched ideals have influenced planning over time and continue to influence urban development today.
