It's a small world after all. When Wai Lung Engineering Co. was awarded the contract for the tunnels for the people-mover which will be capable of transporting up to 150 passengers a distance of 750m in 70 seconds, it had a major problem. Hong Kong's new International airport at Chek Lap Kok has probably the largest airport passenger terminal ever built. The Airport Authority set up by the Hong Kong Government required construction in an extremely tight time scale to achieve completion as close to the hand-over of Hong Kong to China in 1997 as possible. The tunnels for the people mover were to be constructed in an open cut.
