From its large stand at Intermat, Case will be exuding the confidence of company that has put the past behind them and is facing the future with a degree of equanimity. Barely six years ago, the industry was questioning its viability as it faced the market with an outdated product range, over-capacity, lack of direction - and recession in key markets. Best known for its compact to medium sized machines - excavators, wheeled loaders, trenchers and forklifts, and as a world leader in backhoe loaders (over 360,000 sold world-wide) -Case now looks set to reap the rewards of a painful rationalisation programme started in 1991. Nothing was sacrosanct. Every aspect of the business was questioned for efficiency. And the company recognised that new products for the mature replacement markets of Europe and N. America were vital to maintaining and increasing market share.
