In a rare interview, Komatsu president, Satoru Anzaki told editor-in-chief, Tom Whitley that globalisation is helping the company overcome difficult trading in Japan and Asia. On entering Komatsu's global headquarters in Tokyo's business district of Minato-ku one immediately senses an atmosphere of efficient, high-tech order. The building itself epitomises what you might expect of a successful Japanese company - an abundance of marble, aluminium and chrome, albeit simple, functional and understated in a clinical sort of way.
