Richards Bay Is World's Largest Coal Exporting Facility

As the world's largest coal exporting facility, the Richards Bay Coal Terminal in South Africa meets bulk handling challenges daily. The terminal exports approximately 60 million tpy of coal from several different South African mines. While doing so, the facility handles thousands of railcars. every day and loads on average 700 ships each year, some as large as 190,000 dwt. For the record, the terminal has ship-loaded 297,257 t of coal in a 24-hour period, and 145,800 t into a single vessel in 18 hours and three minutes. This constitutes an average loading rate of 8,068 tph.
